United Threads
Sustainable Fashion Website
This design is part of a larger website about sustainability in fashion. The layout for the website is designed for a user to gain access through a computer. Users can navigate from the homepage to an informational and interactive page. The function of this page is to be used as an educational tool on how long it takes for different fashion textiles and materials to decompose. Additional information is visible for users who want to read and learn more. The goal is not to shame readers, but to inform them, with hopes that they will make changes in the way they shop for clothing and accessories.
I designed the website with the help of six testing participants. I put together three different wireframe options for them to use and documented their experience, comments, and suggestions. After two rounds of usability testing, United Threads was completed. The color palette is earthy with plenty of breathing space between content and easy to read san serif type. On the home page, there is a shocking image of a pile of garbage crushing a human being. This image is placed there, so that it will catch the users’ attention with the hope of making the viewer think of the effects of fast fashion. Once the user scrolls down or clicks on the Decomposing Timeline tab, the user can hover over each article of clothing to learn more about its decomposing process and the impact it has on our planet.
